I had used white sand and white portland cement in my original leaf pathway, and I decided to stick with what I had done before. Unfortunately I could not find white sand anywhere in the Sacramento area. Finally a masonry store suggested using dolomite, which worked well. If anything, it was whiter than the white sand, giving a more pure teracotta color.
